Zaide’s ‘You Should Ask That’
Opens July 4th 2025
‘You Should Ask That’ is an art exhibition by Zaide which considers the ‘Social construct of disability’, a theory which proposes that the largest barriers facing people living with a disability are societal misconceptions and structures, rather than the impairments of the disability themselves.
In this body of work the artist challenges their own bias and explores experiences of being a carer for family and NDIS participants through painting. By undertaking interviews conducted over the course of 18 months, the artist has documented the universal and unique moments people living with disability experience. Each artwork proposes a ‘you should ask that’ question to prompt patrons to consider subconscious prejudices they may hold against members of the disabled community.
